AI Tycoon: How to Play the Real-Time AI Business Simulation Game

The real-time mechanic

Most business simulation games are turn-based: you make a move, the game waits for you. AI Tycoon doesn't wait. Every 15 seconds, your company advances on its own — your current staff, deployed AI tools, and reputation generate passive growth in cash and valuation, whether you're actively making decisions in that moment or not. A session lasts 5 minutes total, so it's short, fast, and continuous rather than a long game you pause and return to.

This changes how you play. You're not waiting for "your turn" to act — you're reacting to a company that's moving whether you touch anything or not, and deciding when to intervene with an investment or a response to an event.

The four investment actions

At any point during the 5-minute session, you can spend in-game cash on one of four actions:

• Hire Staff — adds headcount, which feeds your passive growth rate.
• Deploy AI Tools — adds automation, which also feeds passive growth and tends to scale differently than staff.
• Run a Sales Push — a more immediate action aimed at customers and revenue.
• Ship a Product Improvement — invests in the product itself.

None of these are turn-gated — you can make an investment the moment you have the cash for it. The cost of these actions climbs as your automation level rises, so early-session investments are cheaper than the same action later in a session where your company has already grown.

AI-problem events

Roughly every couple of ticks, a random event interrupts the session: an "AI problem," framed as a real business scenario. The examples are specific and grounded, not abstract — things like your AI chatbot promising a refund it has no authority to give, a bug that double-charged 50 customers overnight, or an engineer flagging a bias issue right before a big demo.

Each event gives you 2-3 response choices. Here's the part worth understanding clearly: the outcome of each choice is randomized and weighted, not fixed. Picking the same response in two different sessions won't guarantee the same result for your cash, reputation, or customers — you're managing probability, not solving a puzzle with one correct answer.

The rival valuation leaderboard

Throughout the session, you're shown on a live leaderboard against two AI-run rival companies. Their valuations move independently of yours, so the leaderboard gives you a constant read on whether your investment choices and event responses are keeping pace, not just an end-of-game reveal.

How a session ends

At the 5-minute mark, the session ends and shows your final company valuation next to both rivals' final valuations. From there you have two options: start a new paid session that continues the journey from your ending state, rather than resetting to zero, or start over completely fresh.
